Dr. Umar Bowers, MD
Medical Director, Dawson Med
Dr. Umar Bowers is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and the Medical Director of Dawson Med. Known for his compassionate, relationship-centered approach to care, Dr. Bowers is committed to helping patients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their health journey.
Originally from Virginia, Dr. Bowers earned his undergraduate degree from Longwood University before completing his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Throughout his training, Dr. Bowers developed a strong foundation in evidence-based care with a deep appreciation for treating the whole person—not just the diagnosis.
Before co-founding Dawson Med, Dr. Bowers served as a research assistant with Johns Hopkins Medicine and has remained active in advancing healthcare access in North Carolina. He currently holds several leadership positions, including:
As a physician, Dr. Bowers believes that high-quality care starts with trust. Whether he’s managing a chronic condition, conducting a routine exam, or working to prevent illness, he meets each patient with warmth, clarity, and a genuine desire to help them live healthier lives.
When he’s not seeing patients, Dr. Bowers enjoys giving back to his community, mentoring students, and spending time with his family outdoors.
